Exporting Your Layout Specification

In order for layouts to know who to ship to on other layouts, each program needs to know about those other layouts.  This is done by exchanging a database file that contains all the information about the sender's layout.  This requires that each person exports the layout specification first and send this file to each recipient they want shipments from.  Once the specification is loaded into the other program, they will see all the industries on your layout when they go to create shipments.

To add your layout specification to the interchange database (called Interchange.mdb) select the Interchange option on the main screen just above the Step by Step.  From there you will see the interchanging screen, which is discussed in other pages here.

Make sure you are at the images\ebx_-1401955484.giftab.  There are three simple steps to create the interchange file.  The first time you do this the top list will be empty, so step 1 will not be done.    Simply press the Create File button.  You will have the option of placing the file on the hard drive, floppy or e-mail as an attachment.  Once you have the file in hand, simply take it to all the layouts you want to interchange with.   (The resulting Interchange.zip file will reside where ever you have installed this application).

After other's have sent you their files, and you have imported them, the next time you come here you will see the top list contain the names of the layout you interchange with.  This list will also show the number of pending shipments from your layout to theirs waiting to be sent.  Check off the layouts you wish to send a file to.  This action will show you all the shipments that are pending to be sent.  When ready, press the Create File button to create the interchange file.

Once at the other person's program, select the Inbound Cars tab.  Press Read Interchange File.  Select the file from the location it resides.  If this is a new layout to import, you will see an indication of such and asked if this will be a physical or virtual exchange of cars.

There may be two messages you'll receive that will indicate you cannot import the specification from the other layout.  The first is your own specification, you cannot accidentally import your own specification.  The other time is if the other person's program is not registered.  That is, not legally purchased on its own.
